Senior Fellow, USC Annenberg School for Communication's Center on Communication Leadership and Policy

Cinny Kennard is a Senior Fellow at the University of Southern California Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership and Policy, where she is working to launch a Center of Women in Communication Leadership. She was previously the managing director and managing editor of National Public Radio's West Coast Production Center. Kennard oversaw programming and operations for over five years. Kennard has been involved in broadcast journalism for nearly 25 years.

Winner of the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University award for coverage of the Persian Gulf War, she spent several years as a CBS News television correspondent. In that role she reported on the uprising in Moscow, the ongoing conflict in Northern Ireland and the former Yugoslavia. She also worked as both a correspondent and host for television stations in Dallas, Houston and Ft Wayne Indiana. Her broadcast career started at WNLK Radio in Norwalk, Connecticut where she was a reporter, an anchor and a talk show host.

Kennard has since launched several start-up projects aimed at improving broadcast journalism. Among them, she served as the executive director of Reliable Resources, the $1.5 million Pew Charitable Trust/USC Annenberg project to improve radio and television political coverage; she is one of the founders and an advisory board member of the Carole Kneeland Project for Responsible Television Journalism and for nine years serves as a juror on the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award jury for excellence in broadcast journalism. Kennard is currently a member of the editorial board of the fast-growing international news online operation Global Post (

Kennard has co-authored "Characteristics of War Coverage by Female Correspondents," which was published in the book Media and Conflict in the Twenty-First Century.. She is a graduate of Northeastern University.
